“Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make. Good. Art.” ~Neil Gaiman
Art and Design at Fred Longworth High School is an exciting creative environment, led by professional artists, designers and thinkers, who inspire and challenge our students in a friendly and highly enjoyable artistic environment.
Our philosophy is to nurture and encourage students to explore their skills in a wide variety of media, allowing the time to develop as artists through engaging and interesting projects.
Our year seven students come to us with a wide range of art experience, their introduction to art at KS3 aims to equip them with key artistic skills through the study of the formal elements of art. We begin with our exciting foundation in Art & Design ‘Art as Play’ a curriculum designed to inspire and encourage experimentation.
Year eight is an opportunity to challenge our students further with projects that cover areas of art such as sculpture, ceramics and print making. We highly value the traditional arts and crafts and encourage our students to identify their place in modern society.
In preparation for KS4, our year nine students are guided through GCSE style projects designed to give a taster of what students should expect at a higher level of education. Students will investigate key artistic movements and study their importance to contemporary culture, issues and politics.
