Our school provides every student with an email account which enables them to communicate with their class teachers. This email account can be accessed in school or at home by either using a web browser, or by using the Microsoft Outlook app which can be installed for free on their smartphone or tablet.
See below for common questions and answers regarding accessing and using email.
There are two ways in which your child can access their school email account. These are:
- On a computer by using Outlook through a web browser (most common method, as done in school).
- On a tablet or smartphone by downloading an app and configuring their email on it.
Accessing on a computer (via a web browser)
Go to the school website https://www.flhs.org.uk and from the top menu hover over or click on Students, and then underneath the section ‘Student Apps’ click on Email.
A new page will load up in your web browser where your child will then be required to enter their school email account.
(Your child’s school email address is the username that they use in school to log on a computer followed by @flhs.wigan.sch.uk), then click on Next.
In the password field enter the password you your child uses to log on a computer in school, then click Sign In.
Your child’s school email account will now load and they will be taken to their inbox.
Accessing on a mobile device (via app)
If your child has a smartphone or a tablet they can get their email on these devices by downloading and installing the Microsoft Outlook app. There are however a few steps (three in total) that you will have to do to get your child’s school email on a mobile device working.
Step One - Setting up device security
Before you can configure email on the device that you intend to use school email on you will need to set up a personal pin code/lock screen pattern or password on your mobile device. If you have already done this please move to step two, otherwise please consult the following reference material:

If you do not wish to use a pin code/lock screen pattern or password on your mobile device you will be unable to proceed with the configuration of school email on your personal device but you can continue to access email via the device web browser. Please click here to access your email via your device web browser.
Step Two - Download the Outlook mail app
Download and install the Microsoft Outlook App for free for your mobile device (Smartphone or Tablet) by visiting the following:
Step Three - Configuring email on your device
Once you have completed the steps mentioned above you can configure the Microsoft Outlook App on your mobile device to work with child’s school email account.

Your child’s username is the username that they use to log in to computers in school followed by @flhs.wigan.sch.uk
Their password is the same password that they use to log in to computers in school.
