Languages
At this crucial time in our history, post-Brexit and in a period of unprecedented global migration, language learning has a significant role to play in the apprenticeship of our young people as global citizens. Fostering the practices of understanding and appreciating differences, and of developing intercultural competence, is at the heart of language learning at Fred Longworth High School. A GCSE in French or Spanish will give you opportunities that no other GCSE can offer you. Watch the video for more information.
Physical Education
All students will complete 3 hours of physical activity every 2 weeks as part of the core PE curriculum. During this time students are encouraged to live a healthy and active lifestyle and will opt to perform in activities that are personal to them. We also offer 2 KS4 examination courses in PE and Sport. Some students may opt to study OCR GCSE PE and some may opt to study OCR Cambridge National Sports Studies Certificate (Level 2). Both courses prepare the students well for further study in sports and the various options available in both further education and the sports industry. Please watch the video for more information.
Science
All students study the three Science disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Key Stage 4. Most students will study AQA Combined Science Trilogy which is a double award qualification. Some students may opt to study AQA Separate Sciences in Biology, Chemistry and Physics which are three separate GCSEs. Both courses prepare students well for further study in all three Science disciplines. Please watch the video for more information.

Arts
The Expressive Arts Faculty prides itself on the creative opportunities that we offer to our students. As well as developing the talent and skills within each of our subject areas, we also encourage students to immerse themselves fully in their chosen artforms and develop a passion, appreciation and understanding that goes way beyond their time at school. Studying our subjects at Key Stage 4 gives students the chance to do just that – to study styles, movements, and artists in greater depth and in doing so, enabling our students to become lifelong creators and artists themselves. Opting for one or more of our subjects at Key Stage 4 is a brilliant way to enjoy a rounded and balanced curriculum where students can develop not just as artists, but as collaborators, creative thinkers, problem solvers and confident orators.
