Faculty Introduction
The English classrooms are spaces that encourage inquiry, empathy, and creativity. Students study core disciplinary areas of English knowledge in thematic units that build from KS2 foundations through to GCSE level and beyond. Curriculum sequencing of key knowledge and ideas mean that students are provided with opportunities to revisit and build on core content, deepening and refining their knowledge and skills as they journey through the curriculum.
Our curriculum actively encourages an appreciation of reading through a range of well-considered and challenging texts that promote critical thinking, but also recognises that reading comes in different forms and creates opportunities for close reading, reading for pleasure, reading to enrich knowledge, and reading to develop fluency. These texts are selected not only from the traditional canon, but also reflect a diverse range of voices, perspectives, and experiences.
Alongside our reading curriculum, students are provided with knowledge of the craft of writing at word, sentence, and whole text level. Writing is given real-world connections with students being required to craft writing that communicates passionately and compellingly in a way that demonstrates a precise understanding of what, how and why communication/language works.
