Message from the Headteacher
Dear Parents & Carers,
As we approach the end of another successful academic year at Fred Longworth High School, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on and celebrate all that our students, staff and wider school community have achieved together.
This year has been filled with academic success, personal growth, sporting achievements, creative performances, and countless examples of students living our school values both inside and outside the classroom. I am immensely proud of the determination, resilience, and ambition our students have demonstrated throughout the year.
Thank you for attending the Student-Led Conferences on Monday. It was wonderful to see students speaking so confidently about their learning and achievements. I hope you left with the same sense of pride that we feel as a school community, having heard your child reflect thoughtfully on their progress, accomplishments, and aspirations from the past academic year.
The final week of term promises to be a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate another fantastic year. We are looking forward to a range of special events and assemblies that recognise the hard work, commitment and achievements of our students. These occasions provide an opportunity to reflect on the year, create lasting memories and strengthen the sense of community that makes Fred Longworth such a special place.
One of the highlights will, of course, be Freddie’s Fest, which is eagerly anticipated by students and staff alike. This event captures the spirit of our school, bringing everyone together to celebrate the end of the year in a positive, enjoyable and memorable way.
As we celebrate the successes of the year, I would also like to thank parents and carers for their continued support in promoting good attendance. Regular attendance remains one of the most important factors in ensuring that students make the most of the opportunities available to them and achieve their full potential.
My end-of-term letter has been circulated to all parents and carers this week. It contains details of the arrangements for the final week of term, important information for the summer holidays, and key start-of-term arrangements for September 2026. Please take the time to read this carefully.

Things to celebrate
- Our Key Stage 3 Dance Choreography Festival took place after school last Friday. Almost 100 dancers, along with their Year 10 dance leaders, performed for one another in an end-of-summer-term dance celebration. Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event.
- On Monday we held our annual Student-Led Conference. It is always lovely to see our students taking the lead as they review their learning journey at the end of an academic year. Your support at these events is invaluable to us.
- On Monday a group of our Dance students had the privilege of working with past student and professional dancer, Harry Cunliffe. This workshop provided students with an opportunity to work alongside Harry and understand more about his career in Dance.
- On Tuesday our Year 10 students attended their college taster day. This event sets out Year 10 students up for life in Year 11 and beyond. We are always proud of the way in which our students conduct themselves at such events.
- Also on Tuesday, it was medals galore at the Wigan Schools Athletics Championships. Well done to all our athletes.
- On Thursday evening we held our Summer concert. This event is always incredibly well attended and showcases so many of our talented singers, musicians and technical support students (past and present).
- Today a group of our students and staff will take part in their Duke of Edinburgh expedition. We wish them the best of luck.

The students involved were a credit to themselves and represented the school exceptionally well. Their confidence, enthusiasm and professionalism reflected the positive culture created within the department. The OCR team also had the opportunity to meet a number of staff throughout the day and were highly impressed by what they saw. Watch this space – we look forward to sharing the completed video in the near future.

Homework and Independent Learning
Over the summer holidays we encourage all of our students to read.
We strongly encourage all of our KS4 students to access the self-directed study hub.
Applications that we use for learning
The following applications are used by our students during their time at FLHS to aid their learning. You can learn more about them below.
Microsoft Office
Did you know that your child can access Microsoft Office at home for free? As a student at Fred Longworth High School, your child is allowed to download a fully working free copy of Microsoft Office 365 to use on their computer, smartphone and tablet whilst they are a student at our school. Click on the button below to learn more.
Satchel:One
Satchel:One is the school online learning platform for students and is the parental portal for all information related to your child’s overall progress within school. You can keep track of your child’s homework using Satchel:One. It is advisable to remind your child to get into the habit of checking their homework on Satchel:One regularly. Relying upon notifications is not the right approach and we advise students to turn off notifications so that they are not disturbed by them.
GCSEPod
GCSEPod is an online study platform and is the perfect resource to help your child learn, retain and recall all the information they need to achieve their GCSE goals. GCSEPod provides 3-5 minute bursts of audio-visual, teacher written learning which can help to reinforce and consolidate key GCSE topics covered in lessons. Experts read and explain everything clearly including all the right facts, quotes, keywords, dates and diagrams on screen. GCSEPod is only available to students in Year 10 and Year 11.
Homework Club
Please remind your child that homework club is available to all students Monday to Thursday where they can complete work in a quiet environment with staff on hand to support them, and computers for online quizzes and research.

We want to do all we can to support your child to be in school every day and ask that you support this important message from home, encouraging your child to avoid missing curriculum content through absence. Here is a breakdown of the absences for the following attendance percentages:
