Things to celebrate

  • This week, we welcomed back our students who had taken part in the French trip over the weekend.  We are incredibly proud of the way in which our students conducted themselves on this visit and hope that they gained a lot from the experience.

  • On Thursday, we held our first PSHE day of the year.  Each year group took part in a variety of activities which linked to specific themes and topics including team building and positive relationships. It was also fantastic to see students participating in the Freddie’s traditional ‘Tug of War’ competition.

  • Next week, the first of our Freddie’s Stars will be shared with students. This is recognition for students who have excelled in particular subject areas and they have received nominations from their teachers. A huge well done to everyone nominated.

Homework and Self-directed study

We have six types of homework which we set in order to broaden, consolidate and enhance your child’s learning.  Each week we will share with you one of the types of homework.

Please see below for this week’s ‘Spell it’ examples and our reason for setting this type of homework task (click to enlarge):

Satchel One

You can keep track of your child’s homework using Satchel:One.

Homework Club

Please remind your child that homework club is available to all students Monday-Thursday in the Library (apart from Monday week B) where support and IT equipment is is available.

Personal Development

The next character trait that we will be focusing on is Resilience. This is particularly important as we move towards the latter end of this half term and students start to get tired. If students are resilient, they will be able to overcome adversity, keep going with high levels of motivation, and they are more likely to succeed. Being resilient takes time to develop and can only be achieved by pushing through challenging situations. Key information on ‘being resilient’ is included below.

Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Thursday this week, we had the first of our two PSHE Days this year and it was a great success. Our PSHE curriculum is designed to support the personal development of our students and all year groups were engaged in a variety of useful and exciting activities. Year 11 spent the day at Leigh Sports Village for our annual Careers Conference; the Year 8 day was focused on digital literacy, and Year 9 were looking at healthy and unhealthy relationships. The Year 10 day focused on mental health and well-being, and Year 7 had their fabulous team building day which further helps to gel the year group together and support their transition into high school. This culminated in the famous Freddie’s Egg Drop!

Regards,

Mr Davies.
