Dear Parent/Carer,
The School Admissions Code 2021 (the Code), states that admission authorities must consult on their admission arrangements if they:
- Are proposing a decrease in the admission number for 2027/28
- Are proposing a change to their oversubscription criteria for 2027/28
- Have not consulted on their admission arrangements in the last 7 years.
The Trust Board of Fred Longworth High School last consulted in 2018/19 and we are therefore carrying out this consultation process for our draft 2027 Admissions arrangements, a copy of which can be found on the school website under the ‘Parents – Admission Arrangements’ heading. Additional copies are available from school if required.
Trustees have decided to make a slight change and include an additional criterion to protect against the impact of a national teacher recruitment crisis.
The consultation begins at 5:00pm today, Wednesday 3rd December 2025 and will run for six weeks, ending at 5:00pm on Wednesday 14th January 2026.
Anyone wishing to comment on the school’s proposed Admissions arrangements for 2027 should contact the Secretary to the Trust Board via email at marlandd@flhs.wigan.sch.uk or by letter.
The consultation has been communicated by the school as follows:
- Notification to Wigan Council
- Notification to all parents and carers of Fred Longworth High School
- Publication on the school website
- Notification to Primary schools in Tyldesley and Atherton
