For Parents & Carers

Things to celebrate

  • This week we re-launched ‘Freddie’s Focus on the Stars’.  It was wonderful to see so many of our students being recognised for their efforts and successes in their subjects.

  • A very successful week with our PE fixtures this week:
  • Y9/10 girls football squad played 4 games and won 4 games against Lowton on Wednesday.
  • Y10 boys beat Didsbury 2-1 in the 1st round of the county cup on Monday.
  • Y7 boys won the team building activities at Pennington flash on Tuesday.
  • The Y9 boys and Y7 boys football teams have played and represented the school brilliantly this week.

School Reminders

  • Self Evaluation and BEST Awards week

Next week is our self-evaluation and BEST Awards week. During self-evaluation, our students will reflect on their attitude to learning and their learning in specific subjects. Please ask your child to talk to you about their attitude to learning and the subject areas where they need to improve. It is vital that our students engage with their learning and progress, being clear about their next steps. Our BEST Awards are given by Form Tutors to students who have demonstrated one or more of our character values. Those students will receive five reward points and a certificate to bring home.

  • Year 11 mock exams

Year 11 mock exams will commence Monday 28th November and will run across a fortnight. Please encourage your child to engage with revision over the half term break.

  • Y11 Examination preparation night

Our ‘Y11 Examination preparation night’ for parents and carers will take place on Thursday 3rd November at 6pm. Letters will be sent out early next week with full details.

  • Progress Review

Progress Review for all year groups will take place on Monday 14th November from 2pm. Information about this online event and how to book your appointment via School Cloud will be sent out after Half Term.

  • General Reminder

Punctuality to school and to lessons is vital. Every minute counts in school and therefore we would appreciate your support in reinforcing this with your child.

Homework and Self-directed study

We have six types of homework which we set in order to broaden, consolidate and enhance your child’s learning.  Each week we will share with you one of the types of homework.

Please see below for this week’s ‘Apply it’ examples and our reason for setting this type of homework task (click to enlarge):

Satchel One

You can keep track of your child’s homework using Satchel:One.

Homework Club

Please remind your child that homework club is available to all students Monday-Thursday in the Library (apart from Monday week B) where support and IT equipment is is available.

GCSEPod

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and carers of Y10 and 11 students that we have access to GCSEPod which is an online study platform. We would like all of our KS4 students to sign up to this and reap the benefits of it. Your child will have received an email from Mr Singleton about how to log on. Please encourage your child to do so.  For further information, click here.

Personal Development

The next character trait that we will be focusing on is Resilience. This is particularly important as we move towards the latter end of this half term and students start to get tired. If students are resilient, they will be able to overcome adversity, keep going with high levels of motivation, and they are more likely to succeed. Being resilient takes time to develop and can only be achieved by pushing through challenging situations. Key information on ‘being resilient’ is included below.

Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

This has been another positive week in school with so many students being recognised during our Freddie’s Focus on the Stars. As we approach the end of the half term, next week’s form time sessions will be focusing on student self-evaluation. Students will complete self-evaluation booklets which encourage them to reflect on all their achievements this half term. This does not just mean performance in lessons; it is also an opportunity for students to reflect on their involvement in extra-curricular activities and their positive contributions to the wider school and community.

Regards,

Mr Davies.
