Important Information

Please remember that if you are concerned about any of these issues; you must contact your GP. If you are concerned about a child’s safety for example,  if they are a risk to themselves or others, or if you are unable to keep them safe, it is advised that you got to your nearest Accident & Emergency.

What if someone is having suicidal thoughts or, if there is a concern about the safety of someone with mental health challenges?

CAMHS (Wigan Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). The service is for young people ages up to 18 years and they can help with feeling depressed, anxious and lots of other problems and worries. Information will be kept confidential. Contact the advice line on 01942 775400, Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5pm, Fridays 8.30 – 4pm.

  • If any young person discloses self-harm or suicidal thoughts after 5pm please contact 0800 051 3253  a 24/7 mental health crisis line for people of all ages in Wigan. Remember to remove all sharp objects. medication and potentially dangerous items from out of sight and reach. Evidence shows that risk is significantly reduced, if the means to do so is removed.

In an emergency, call 999 or attend A&E if:

  • Someone’s life is at risk – for example they have seriously injured themselves or taken an overdose.
  • You do not feel you can keep yourself or your child safe
  • A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a physical one. You will not be wasting anyone’s time.
