Summer Uniform Information

Dear Parent/Carer,

I write to you with some updates and reminders.

Girls’ Summer Uniform

As you will be aware, our normal school uniform regulations include a requirement for the girls to wear black tights if they choose to wear the school dress. With the recent warm weather, a number of girls have made representations through our School Council for this rule to be relaxed. As a result of this, we are going to implement a temporary change to the uniform. With immediate effect and until the end of the Summer term, girls will be allowed to wear plain black knee high socks (no bows) instead of tights. Students, of course, will be able to continue to wear tights if they prefer and trousers are still available as an option (as they have always been). We will return to our normal uniform rules in September but with a slight amendment (see below).

This decision has been taken in response to student requests. All other uniform rules remain the same and we expect the girls to wear dresses of the appropriate school length so that they are as smart as possible. If a student rolls up their dress they will be told to return to wearing tights immediately. In addition, if students choose to wear socks instead of tights because of the heat, they should not be wearing a jumper.

We reserve the right to abandon the temporary change if we do not have the full cooperation of the girls. I am sure that we can count on your support in stressing to your daughter that the future of this temporary change is once again in the hands of all the girls. I am confident that they will respond in the right way and that they will appreciate the fact that we have listened to and acted upon their feedback.

Other changes to uniform and equipment from September

I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of a change we will be making to our uniform policy from September 2023. In the new school year, jumpers will no longer be part of our uniform and students will not be allowed to wear them to school.

In terms of equipment, from September we will be making it an additional requirement that all students have a pencil case as part of their basic stationery. This is to further help students organise themselves for school.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mr P Davies
