School to be built at Hindsford
Local media announce that a £250,000 school will be built in the Hindsford area of Tyldesley on Printshop Lane.
7th March, 1964
Opening of School
Fred Longworth County Secondary School opens for the first time as girls only school.
29th August, 1973
Death of Sir Fred Longworth
Sir Fred Longworth dies, 29th August, 1973.
1976
Change to comprehensive
School becomes a mixed gender comprehensive. Name changed to Fred Longworth High School.
1997
Arts College Status
Fred Longworth High School is awarded Arts College status.
1998
Science building extension
Science building is extended with extra classrooms.
2002
Freddie’s in top 10
Fred Longworth High School is in the top 10% of schools in Britain in terms of performance.
2008
Art block
Construction and opening of a purpose built Art block.

Outstanding School
Fred Longworth High School is judged an “Outstanding School” by Ofsted.

School celebrates its 50th anniversary with a number of events to mark the occasion.

Construction and opening of the Flexible Learning Building.

Work begins on the demolition of our Humanities and Mathematics block. Construction of a new building takes place.

New Maths & Humanities Block
Our new building opens.
