FRED LONGWORTH MUSIC DEPARTMENT – ABOUT US
Music plays a very important part in everyday life at Fred Longworth High School where all students are encouraged to learn an instrument, get involved and take part in the many ensembles, in addition to striving to perform to their very best potential in curriculum time. The department endeavours to provide each student with the knowledge, experience, independence and resilience that they need to achieve their full potential as learners.
Fred Longworth High School Music Department aims to provide a force of musical creativity for all students in our school. Music is a way to bring together students, teachers, musicians, the instrumental peripatetic staff and musical organisations to listen to, learn and make music in a multitude of forms. It is our belief that students have and develop a life long love of music through exciting, rewarding, varied and high quality musical experience across our diverse curriculum, music lessons and extra curricular activities. Above all, it is our belief that all students enjoy music and have fun making music at all times.
With our nationally renowned Brass band, Choir, String Ensemble, Ukulele ensemble, rock bands, Rockskool, Music Production groups, our work with Musical Futures and more than fifteen specialist music staff, Freddie’s Music Department is always thriving with plenty of choice and something to suit everyone. Our facilities include four specialist classrooms, two of which are ICT suites, a large recording studio and two practice rooms.
Students receive a one-hour curriculum lesson of Music a week as Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8). If students opt for one of the Key Stage 4 Music courses – GCSE AQA Music, RSL Music Practitioners in Performance or RSL Music Practitioners in Music Technology – students will study music for five hours over the two-week timetable.
We offer peripatetic instrumental lessons on brass, woodwind, strings, drums, guitar, vocals, rap, DJ and Music Production.
